One development that is getting increasing attention is that of Controlled Radiation Antenna Pattern (CRPA) antennas. These CRPA antennas use an array of antenna elements for the ability to suppress jamming from specific directions. This ability helps to maintain position fixes of GNSS systems (e.g. GPS) longer under Electronic Warfare conditions.

RF Intern

Assignment


This internship assignment focusses on creating a test setup for characterizing the antenna element properties in a consistent reproduceable manner. Measurements need to be done with the antenna element receiving signals from various combinations of azimuth and elevation angles to characterize the antenna.

 


Responsibilities

What we expect from you is to make a design based on commercial of the shelf components and custom designed elements to perform these tests. The manufacturing of custom designs is done externally. Assembly and testing is done internally and within scope of the assignment.


Some of the example considerations are:


• Measuring various sizes of Antenna PCB with a single setup

• Being able to center the antenna elements rotation point within 1mm accuracy

• Being able to set the angle within 0.25 degrees accuracy

• Adjustable distance between the emitter and antenna 1 - 2.5 m

Requirements


  • A BSc mechanical/mechatronic engineering internship position for a minimum of 2 months 
  • Experience with mechanical design in CAD software 
  • Practical and actively seeking communication within the team 
  • Affinity with working for Defence. Possibility to obtain security clearances (Dutch, NATO, EU) is a must.
  • Preferably already based in the Netherlands.
  • In order to be eligible for this internship, you need to be enrolled in an academic degree for the whole duration of it.
