Optomechanical Researcher - Integrated Photonics
Eindhoven
Full time (40 hours per week)
Medior-Senior
About this job
We are currently looking for an Optomechanical Engineer to join the team in Eindhoven.
As an Opto-Mechanical Researcher, you will belong to a team that aims to improve the integrated photonics field. Complex optical circuits are used to process and transmit signals of light, similar to the routing of electrical signals in a computer microchip, but using less energy and transmitting data faster. Applications include “green” datacenters, LIDAR for driverless cars, advanced sensor and quantum communication. The aim is to accelerate the development of the Dutch and European industry around integrated photonics, bridging the gap between research and industrial application in integrated photonics.
Job details
Optomechanical Engineer - Integrated Photonics
Main responsibilities
This position is for a creative engineer with problem-solving skills. Together with the research team, you evaluate chip-level and panel-level interconnect and assembly processes for photonic integrated chips for various markets.
- You will be responsible for designing and building our optical setups, which includes camera and microscope systems, as well as designing optical interfaces for integrated photonics.
- Design optical coupling solutions for integrated photonics (micro-optical bench).
- Develop optical alignment routines that are scalable and flexible, both for single optical path or array of optical paths.
- Testing and verification of packaging solutions.
- DOE and statistical analysis of packaging and photonic experimentation.
- Can direct and manage projects from sourcing components, interacting with suppliers and partners and taking ownership and seeing projects from inception until completion.
- You are expected to help with optical and electrical characterization of photonic chips and packages.
Requirements
- An BSC or MSC degree in mechanical, optical or similar engineering discipline.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with building optical setups.
- Experience using optical simulation software (e.g. Zemax or similar).
- Experience using mechanical design software (e.g. SolidWorks or similar).
- Basic programming skills (python, MATLAB, …).
- Ability or willingness to learn photonic chip packaging processes (die bonding, wire bonding, flip chip).
- You should have experience in photonics, semiconductor or similar field.
- You are a team player.
- Ability to communicate with different stakeholders in a project (electronic engineers, photonic engineers, applications architects, etc.).
- Can-do-it attitude.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with writing simple automation scripts.
- Experience with optical alignment of integrated photonics is highly desirable.
- Having working knowledge of electronics and lab equipment is a plus.
