We are currently looking for an FPGA/Firmware Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area.
As an FPGA/Firmware Engineer, you will contribute to the development of advanced electronics systems for the space sector. The role focuses on the design, implementation, and verification of VHDL-based firmware for products such as optical modems and data processing systems. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex, cutting-edge systems within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

FPGA/Firmware Engineer

Main responsibilities
- Analyse system and interface requirements to define architectures and functional decomposition at the component and FPGA level
- Design, implement, and simulate firmware using VHDL
- Integrate and verify firmware designs on target hardware platforms
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, embedded software developers, and project managers
- Support qualification and test activities during product validation phases
- Document architectural decisions, design details, simulation results, and interface control specifications
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronics Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in FPGA/firmware development
- Proven proficiency in VHDL coding, synthesis, and timing verification
- Familiarity with OSVVM is considered an advantage
- Knowledge of high-speed digital circuits and related interfaces is desirable
- Strong teamwork and proactive problem-solving mindset
- Effective communication skills in English within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in on-hardware validation using lab test equipment is a plus
- Understanding of modulation, coding, and digital signal processing techniques is an asset
- Previous exposure to aerospace or space-related engineering environments is beneficial
