We are currently looking for a DBA Database Administrator / Platform Engineer to join our client's team in Utrecht.
Our client is a leading organisation working on data-driven solutions that support major societal and environmental challenges across the Netherlands. By providing critical insights into subsurface and infrastructure data, their work contributes to areas such as sustainability, energy, and spatial development.
To support these activities, we are looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) who will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of complex database environments.
In this role, you will work in a hybrid setup (partly remote, partly on-site in the Utrecht area) and be responsible for maintaining and improving a database landscape consisting primarily of PostgreSQL (±70%) and Oracle (±30%). Your work will directly support business-critical systems and applications.

Main responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimise PostgreSQL and Oracle databases
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of database environments
- Monitor systems proactively and resolve issues before they impact users
- Perform backups, recovery, upgrades, and migrations
- Analyse and optimise database performance (SQL queries, indexing, storage structures)
- Support developers and users with database-related questions and challenges
- Contribute to the development and improvement of monitoring solutions and reporting
- Participate in infrastructure and data-related projects (e.g. cloud or new database technologies)
- Work within a DevOps environment, contributing to continuous improvement and documentation

Requirements
- HBO (Bachelor) level working and thinking ability
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL and related tools (e.g. EDB tools such as EFM, PEM, Barman)
- Experience with backup, recovery, upgrades, and migrations in PostgreSQL environments
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL user roles and authentication mechanisms
- Experience with Oracle databases (including security features such as Label Security and VPD)
- Experience with Linux environments (preferably Red Hat) and automation tools such as Puppet or Ansible
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar
- Experience working with DevOps methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD, GitOps)
- Good command of English (required) and preferably Dutch
