About this job

We are currently looking for a System Administrator to join the team in Delft.

“A good sysadmin is somebody who automates their own job away"

S[&]T is a hi-tech company located in Delft that has been realising specialised software projects, services, and consultancy for (amongst others) the space industry for over twenty-five years.

Our three-person IRS (IT, Resources, and Security) team supports about 100 users in their day-to-day activities. Our userbase is growing fast, and with that comes the need to strengthen our infrastructure and support team.

We’re looking for a System Administrator with a broad range of skills and interests — someone who enjoys solving technical puzzles, improving systems, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Job details

System Administrator

Main responsibilities

 A bit about our setup

We have a heterogeneous environment, meaning there’s always something interesting to work on:

  • Linux servers, and a mix of Linux / Windows / macOS laptops.
  • A combination of local, co-located, and cloud servers.
  • Extensive use of Docker containerisation across our infrastructure.
  • Microsoft 365 for collaboration and document sharing.
  • A variety of self-hosted services including Firewall/ switches/ WiFi, DHCP/DNS, printers, GitLab, NextCloud, Mantis, Redmine, Jenkins, Grafana, Matomo dashboards, and more.

We also support and advise internal project teams, each with their own specific hardware, software, and security needs. S[&]T is ISO9001 and ISO27001 certified, so information security is a top priority in everything we do.

You’ll be hands-on with things like:

  • Onboarding and offboarding colleagues and their hardware.
  • Maintaining and monitoring our machines, networks, and licenses.
  • Providing first-line support — from fixing issues to setting up new workspaces.

And you’ll have a say in the bigger picture:

  • Structurally addressing security concerns.
  • (Re)designing our network architecture for better performance and security.
  • Improving our helpdesk setup and efficiency.
  • Developing tools and processes to automate workflows, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Keeping up-to-date with new technologies, trends, and security advisories.

Requirements

We’d love to find someone who:

  • Communicates clearly in English — written and spoken — and actually enjoys helping people.
  • We aim to be an IT team that others feel comfortable approaching, not one they avoid!
  • Is confident working with Linux-based systems, and can write scripts or small tools to make everyday tasks more efficient.
  • Has some experience (or willingness to learn) Windows, macOS, or M365 administration — versatility is more important than knowing everything upfront.
  • Scripting knowledge or affinity would be a big plus!

What we offer

A friendly and collaborative team where you can have a real impact. We value people who take initiative, enjoy learning, and care about doing things the right way — both technically and professionally.

At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
