Space-Based SAR Internship

Main Responsibilities

Space-based S.A.R. (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is useful for detecting objects on the Earth’s surface regardless of weather conditions.

The focus of this internship is to determine the possibility of creating a machine-learning software module capable of processing open-source S.A.R. data from Sentinel-1 satellites to detect irregular vessel positions in the sea.

The candidate will have to define the use case and create the appropriate training data. After which, the candidate will use or build upon existing resources and expert knowledge at S[&]T to provide a Python module capable of detecting and classifying objects of interest using a machine learning algorithm.

This algorithm will have to be trained and then tested on the training data set with the results and software being delivered as a report.
