About this job
We are currently looking for a (freelance) Software Engineer - Quantum Networks to join the team in Delft.
We are seeking a (freelance/ZZP) Software Engineer to join a research group working on quantum computing and quantum networks. The position is for 32–38 hours per month, with an initial contract of 6 months and the possibility of extension thereafter.
You will work within a team developing QNodeOS, an operating system for quantum nodes that form the backbone of quantum networks. This role combines software engineering with agile team facilitation and includes close collaboration with experimental physicists to bring cutting-edge quantum technologies to life. In addition to engineering tasks, you will also take on the role of Scrum Master, supporting team communication and fostering continuous improvement.

Main responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain components of the quantum software stack.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies and actively contribute to the team’s way of working.
- Collaborate with experimental researchers to validate and integrate software solutions.
- Support team communication and promote a culture of openness and constructive feedback.
Requirements
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team.
- Proficiency in C++ (C++17+) and Python.
- Hands-on experience with TDD, CI/CD, Docker, and GitLab.
- Background in working within multidisciplinary and cross-organizational environments.
- Genuine interest in quantum technologies and willingness to expand knowledge in this field.
- Master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
- Certified Scrum Master qualification.
