We are currently looking for a Research Intern to join the team in Delft to work with S.A.R. (Synthetic Apertura Radar) data, starting in September 2025.

Space-based S.A.R. (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is useful for detecting objects on the Earth’s surface regardless of weather conditions. 

As a Research Intern, you will determine the possibility of creating a machine-learning software module capable of processing open-source S.A.R. data from Sentinel-1 satellites to detect irregular vessel positions in the sea.

Main responsibilities 


  • You will define the use case and create the appropriate training data.
  • You will use or build upon existing resources and expert knowledge at S[&]T to provide a Python module capable of detecting and classifying objects of interest using a Machine Learning algorithm.
  • You will train and test the algorithm on the training data set with the results and software being delivered as a report. 


Requirements


You will be the perfect match if you are:

  • Excited to dive into a cutting-edge topic for your master’s thesis.
  • Studying Computer Science or Aerospace (or a related field).
  • Able to work independently and give direction to your own research
  • Experienced with Python. Experience with Machine Learning in Python is an advantage.
  • Passionate about the Space domain and analysis of Space data.​
  • Enrolled in a master’s program for the entire internship duration.
  • Preferably already based in the Netherlands.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and ready to make an impact.
